The Pacific Northwest chapter of the Society of Public Health Educators (aka
PNW SOPHE) is proud to present it's Fall 1997 conference:

Health Education: Materials that Work!

There are TWO different programs this year.

Program 1: Spokane, WA --- Oct. 21 & 22 at the Ramada Inn at Spokane
           International Airport

Health Education: Materials that Work --- How to Develop Readable Health
Education Materials

Come to two half days for a hands on workshop with Audrey Riffenburth, a
nationally recognized expert in readability, literacy, and "Plain English".
Audrey and her firm, Riffenburgh and Associates, specialize in helping
health professionals write highly effective materials for consumers through
"Plain English" writing.

"Plain English" is a consumer movement, strong in the United Kingdon since
the early 1970s and is just emerging in the United STates. It challenges
organizations, health care providers and businesses to leave their formal
technical writing behind. Instead, consumers are asking for
straightforward, consise and clear writing which can be easily understood.
Plain English will help you:
	* write better materials
	* develop materials that are more effective for your specific audience
	* improve consumer satisfaction and confidence
	* save money on materials that aren't effectively reaching audiences.

Program 2: Tacoma/Fife, WA --- Oct. 24 at the Best Western Executive Inn

overview of literacy issues, "marketing" to target audiences, probably

materials topics. Workshops include:
