PUBLIC HEALTH MANAGER
Prevention Services
Salary Range: $62K - $67K

The Tacoma-Pierce County Health Department seeks a senior manager to lead
its population-based, primary prevention efforts to reduce tobacco use,
domestic violence, and substance abuse. Competitive applicants will have
significant training and experience in health education, health behavior
theory and practice, and the ability to coordinate and inspire staff as they
work with communities to implement our prevention campaigns.

effective public health service systems that safeguard and enhance the
health of communities, then consider this opportunity.
The Public Health Manager will be responsible for:
Assuring the establishment and implementation of effective
population-based prevention plans based on epidemiological data, normative
change theories, and program evaluation data.
Developing and evaluating work objectives; creating and analyzing systems
related to program services; and, establishing criteria for quality,
acceptable levels of service, and other performance factors.
Utilizing established systems for budget development and monitoring, and
project planning and completion.
Establishing, promoting and contributing to positive, collaborative
internal and external relationships based on the department's organizational
values and interests.
Managing staff through effective hiring practices, training and
development opportunities, performance-management strategies, and
progressive disciplinary action (as needed).
Independently monitoring risk management factors, including resolution and
follow-up.
This position is also charged with implementing new services in
collaboration with individuals and agencies affected; may initiate requests
for proposals, contracts, agreements, etc., in meeting the overall needs of
the Health Department; and may support and review contractor compliance with
agreements and obligations, quality assurance standards and licensure
requirements.
This position involves interaction with a culturally diverse population of
employees, consumers, educational institutions, governmental agencies, and
community-based coalitions to address health and environmental issues
affecting the publics' safety and welfare. In essence, an employee in this
classification contributes to positive, productive county, state and
community organizational relationships.
Education & Experience Requirements
Master's degree preferred. A Bachelor's degree in Public Health, Social
Marketing or other closely related field; or the equivalent combination of
education, training and experience. And, five years of proven leadership
skills and management experience. Demonstrated skills and experience with
population-based prevention activities a plus.
