Cancer Information Service-Pacific Region Job Announcement:


POSITION DESCRIPTION - PROGRAM COORDINATOR
AMERICAN INDIAN/ALASKA NATIVE INITIATIVE ON CANCER


Note: This is a five year grant beginning June 2000. The Cancer Information
Service-Pacific Region, located at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer  Research
Center, Seattle, WA. is a subcontractor on the AI/AN grant.

Job Title:		Cancer Information Service AI/AN Special Populations
Program Coordinator
			
Job Requirements:	BS in Health Education, Health Communications,
Nursing or related field required.  Master's degree
preferred.

			BS plus 2 years experience working in tribal
communities in the areas of health education, outreach,
communications, and/or nursing is preferred for this position.  Must be
culturally aware and sensitive to 			the health issues of
American Indian/Alaska Native people.   If no direct experience working with
tribal 			communities, experience working with medically
underserved populations and/or rural settings is
necessary.

			Knowledge and experience with principles and methods
of health education/communication, program 			planning and
evaluation is essential. Strong presentation skills required.  Excellent
communication, 			organization and interpersonal skills and
the ability to work in a team environment necessary.  Must be
self-starter and able to work independently off-site.  Frequent travel
within the region is required.  			Flexible schedule
will include evening or weekend tribal events.  Car and driver's license
required.  			Word processing skills required.

			CIS Initital Training and Partnership Program
Training will be provided after hire.  

Reports to:		CIS Partnership Program Manager

Works with:		CIS Special Populations Team (CIS Partnership
Program staff, Project Director, Special Populations
Liaison, Health Informatics Coordinator).

Supervises:		None

Job Description:	In collaboration with the Special Populations Team,
implement the aims of the AI/AN Initiative on 			Cancer
grant:
				1.  Build infrastructure to support a
nationwide AI/AN initiative 	through collaborative outreach
in the Pacific Northwest (AK, ID, NV, OR, WA)
				2.  Increase the number of AI/AN
researchers, scientists and medical students.
				3.  Develop, implement and assess cancer
education among AI/AN
				community members and their health care
providers in the PNW.
				4.  Increase number of AI/AN patients in
clinical trials.
				5.  Assist AI/AN researchers and tribes in
developing successful pilot projects and research
efforts that lead to long-term cancer prevention and control programs in
AI/AN communities.
				6.  Increase/enhance interactions &
collaborations of AI/AN communities with NCI, CIS and
ACS.

			Participate in AI/AN Initiative on Cancer network
activities, i.e. conference calls, national conferences
and meetings.
	
			Attend continuing education seminars, trainings and
workshops relevant to
			CIS, the AI/AN initiative, and to health
education/communication.

			Work 30-32 hours/week. (To be determined)  At least
50% of those hours will be spent off-site in the
tribes.
			
Salary			Range for this grade is $2492 - $3551 DOE for
full-time.   Full benefits and merit program apply.
