Self-Care for You and Others

Well, this is certainly a time of year when you are probably practicing
self-care and maybe helping others practice, too. Linda Wright, from
Affiliated Health Services in Mt. Vernon, and I had a great conversation
about this topic last week. We shared resources we use for ourselves as
well as what we suggest to others. One item we both subscribe to is the
Wellness Letter, The Newsletter of Nutrition, Fitness, and Self-Care from
the University of California, Berkeley. You can see limited portions of the
newsletter online at - http://www.wellnessletter.com/

There is always more in the "paper" newsletter than the online version.
There is a provocative article about food guide pyramids, "Building a Better
Pyramid." The USDA version is contrasted with the Willett pyramid,
recommended by Dr. Walter Willett of Harvard University.

Linda and I both have self-care books at home, but didn't know which was our
favorite. We both have the Healthwise Handbook and she has the Mayo Clinic
Guide to Self-Care. The Wellness Letter has a new title to offer, The
Complete Home Wellness Handbook: Home Remedies, Prevention, Self-Care. We
haven't ordered...yet.

I know we've asked for your self-care suggestions before, but maybe it's
time to ask again. What do you use for yourself and what do you recommend
for others in the self-care arena? Margo
