Well, almost. I'm always impressed when a health story hits the front page
of a major newspaper. If you caught this article or a related one on
Monday, you learned that the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has
released the results of a major new study on breast cancer in women. The
article in the P-I was, "Ethnicity May Affect Cancer Outcome." Here are the
first few lines.
"Women of Japanese and Chinese descent stand the best chance of surviving
cancer in this country, faring better than whites, while Native Americans
and blacks are most at risk, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center has
found.
The findings come from the largest study so far of how race and ethnicity
affect breast-cancer diagnosis, treatment and outcome. The Fred Hutchinson
study was the first to take into account the diversity of ethnic backgrounds
inherent in large racial groups."
If you kept reading, you found a quote from our very own Ellen
Phillips-Angeles. Ellen is well known for her long-time work in women's
health in Seattle and King County. She is currently Women's Health Manager
for Public Health-Seattle & King County. Don't miss this story and Ellen's
comments. Visit - http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/104080_cancer14.shtml
