[PNWHEALTH] FW: Conference Call to Discuss Member; s Efforts to Help Hurricane Katrina Victims

Dear SOPHE Colleagues: 

On September 14th at 12:30 p.m. (EST), a few of us in North Carolina
will host a conference call to plan a coordinated effort to assist with
relief efforts. 

We are planning 'to not just discuss the event' but to plan how we in
public health will lead and respond (i.e., assisting in trauma
reduction, counseling, delivery of food, resettlement, cleaning,
follow-up e.t.c.,). 

We realize that the SOPHE organization is committed to the Annual
Meeting (i.e., professional and financial solvency) and expected
attendees cannot use their agency funds to support relief efforts.
However, action is needed NOW! Lives depend on it. This is the time to
put all that we teach & research into practice. This may mean leaving
our homes and offices to roll our sleeves up and get to work in
rebuilding.
