Regular Full-Time

Salary $22.82-$25.77 DOE
Duties
To create a culturally and geographically appropriate curriculum based
on principles of Health At Every Size. To provide training supporting
the delivery of the curriculum modules by primary prevention staff and
partners around SE Alaska. To evaluate the effectiveness and acceptance
of the curriculum. To provide ongoing training and mentoring to support
the successful provision and integration of the curriculum modules into
SEARHC primary prevention services. This is a temporary, grant-funded
position through April 2009.
Minimum requirements
MPH or MS in Public Health Education, Community Health Education, Public
Health Nutrition or Community Nutrition, or a 4 year degree in public
health, exercise science, or nutrition + 2 years public health practice
work experience. CHES, RD or ACSM Personal Trainer certification or
higher preferred. Five years public health practice, nutrition and/or
community nutrition work experience with specific experiences (in
maternal/child health nutrition) that include targeting chronic diseases
such as diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
Knowledge, skills & ability
1. Demonstrated knowledge of the Health At Every Size research and
materials. 2. Intermediate knowledge, abilities, and skills in public
health practice and assessment and action towards addressing community
public health needs. 3. Advanced knowledge of and skills in the
principles of motivational interviewing. 4. Knowledge of normal
nutrition, therapeutic nutrition, lifestyle and behavior change. 5.
Ability to develop, implement, and evaluate a curriculum, including
support materials, suitable for delivery by paraprofessional health
educators; ability to present curriculum training through
videoconferencing and in both small and large group settings. 6. Ability
to develop and implement culturally and geographically relevant
materials, including elements that ensure success in reaching both
Native and non-Native women in the diverse rural and isolated
communities of SE Alaska. 7. Ability to carry a project through from the
idea phase to the delivery and evaluation phases with great enthusiasm
and professionalism and requiring minimal supervision.
