In just 6 weeks, SOPHE will be in Seattle for the 2007 Midyear
Scientific Conference, in collaboration with CDC's National Center for
Chronic Disease Prevention and Health Promotion (NCCDPHP), and the

Together, they will present the "Changing the Face of Health Education
and Health Promotion" conference at the Renaissance Seattle Hotel, June
7 - 9, 2007.

Reservations:
Reservations may be made for either property by calling 1-800-Holiday
(800.465.4329). Be sure to specify either the Holiday Inn Seattle
Center (Code: SEASC/Ph: 206.728.8123) or the Holiday Inn Express Hotel
& Suites-City Center (Code: SEAWA/Ph: 206.441.7222), and refer to the
2007 HEHP Conference to secure the group rate. The room blocks have
been reserved for June 5 - 10, 2007 at a rate of $169.00 (single/double
occupancy) per night, plus tax.
Reservations must be made no later than Friday, May 4, 2007 or until
the group block is sold out, whichever comes first. All reservations
must be guaranteed with a credit card. If you wish to cancel your
reservation, please ensure that you do so 72 hours prior to your arrival
date. Any cancellations received after this date will be charged one
night's room tax as cancellation fee. Check-in time for the hotel is
3:00 pm, and the check-out time is 12:00 Noon. All rooms are
non-smoking.

Collaborative Leadership in Public Health: Essential Skills for
Influencing Change
June 7, 2007, 8:30am - 12:00pm
Collaborative leadership is an essential skill to influence change for
health education professionals in any practice setting. By the end of
this workshop, participants will:
Assess their personal leadership skills;
Create an individual leadership development plan;
Articulate systems thinking as a tool to assess the environment for
effective collaboration;
Describe effective skills for developing a shared vision for positive
action;
Explain the concept of sharing power to build power; and
Assess the significance of their personal leadership skills, styles
and
experiences.

Media Relations Training for Health Education Professionals
June 7, 2007, 12:30pm - 3:30pm
YOU can be an effective voice to the media on behalf of your
organization or issue. This workshop will empower you to prepare for
and
manage interviews with both print and electronic journalists. Through
engaging lecture periods, issue-based discussions, and hands-on
training, you will receive the knowledge and skills to become an
effective media advocate and spokesperson. The 3-hour workshop is
conveniently segmented to provide initial background information,
teach
skills using current/relevant health issues and provide practical
insight through demonstration interviews simulating actual techniques
journalists use. Each attendee will leave this comprehensive training
with a powerful set of skills, empowering them as effective
spokespeople. The course will be taught by two PR veterans with
health
professional backgrounds.
Presenters:
Paul Froehlich, M.P.H. is an experienced public relations practitioner
and television/media producer who has worked in the New York City area
for over 20 years.
Lynn Crawford Cook, MHS, CHES is a health communicator whose career
spans more than 20 years in journalism, public relations, and
community
health education.

SOPHE Student Scholarships: Midyear Conference Scholarship!
Application Deadline: April 30, 2007
This scholarship provides up to $500 in conference support
(registration, travel, and lodging at the official conference hotel)
for
undergraduate and graduate students to participate in a SOPHE
professional development event -Midyear Scientific Conference. SOPHE
also encourages and allows conference support funds to be used for
SOPHE chapter membership.
A complete nomination packet includes an application form, cover letter
from the SOPHE member coordinating the nomination, and support letters
from National SOPHE members in good standing (where required). Complete

When Does the Bidding Begin?
Bidding for Silent Auction items will kick-off Friday, June 8, 2007 at
the SOPHE Exhibit and Poster Opening. Bidding will continue
throughout
the meeting. Winners will be announced Saturday, June 9, 2007.
Why Should I Participate?
By donating to the Silent Auction, you are giving back to SOPHE. All
proceeds from the sale of these items will go towards "Campaign for
the
21st Century: Building SOPHE's Future". Funds from the Campaign for
the 21st Century are used to provide student scholarships to attend
SOPHE midyear and annual meetings and the annual Advocacy Summit, as
well as generate additional support for policy fellowships, marketing
the profession, and building grassroots infrastructure.
