ASSISTANT DIRECTOR FOR HEALTH EDUCATION
POSITION SUMMARY: great opportunity to shape program in this new position.
Portland State University invites applications for the new position of
Assistant Director for Health Education at the Center for Student Health
and Counseling. The position of Assistant Director for Health Education
and promotion in the Center for Student Health and Counseling is one of
eight supervisory positions in the Center. The Assistant Director works
in a highly collaborative team effort with the Director, the other four
Assistant Directors, the Medical Directors of the Student Health Service
and CAPS, and the Operations Manager to provide a comprehensive health
education program to PSU students. This position provides leadership and
management to assure smooth programmatic integration with clinical
services and with all other services in the Center. This is a permanent,
full-time, 12-month position.
This new position will be responsible for the development of culturally
competent evidence based health education programs and services focusing
on prevention, environmental change, and behavioral strategies,
including a comprehensive peer education program, and the Alcohol and
Other Drug Prevention Program.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Required:
* Master’s degree in Health Education, Public Health, Health Promotion,
or a related field
* Three to five years experience as a health educator
* Demonstrated knowledge of health promotion and behavior change
theories and the ecological framework
* Demonstrated ability to implement health education programs based on
literature review and needs assessment
* Demonstrated interpersonal skills and the ability to understand and
address behavioral health concerns of a culturally diverse and
traditionally underserved student population
* Proven ability to work as a collaborative team member with students,
faculty and staff throughout the campus community
* Excellent listening, oral presentation, written communication, and
computer skills
Preferred:
* Credentials as a Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) preferred
* Demonstrated teaching skills at the university level preferred
* Grant writing experience preferred
* Knowledge of American College Health Association’s (ACHA) Standards of
Practice for Health Promotion in Higher Education preferred
COMPENSATION:
The starting annual salary rate for this position will be between
$42,000 - $46,000 dependent upon qualifications and experience with an
excellent benefits package including fully paid healthcare; a generous
retirement and vacation package; and reduced tuition rates for employee,
spouse or dependant at any of the Oregon University System schools.
