Subject: [Pophealth] Sapolsky Nov 21, 3:30, UW Stress and health talk &
Scien. Amer article
A reminder of his talk and a note that a very good article by Sapolsky
is
featured in the December 2005 issue of Scientific American entitled
"Sick
of Poverty: The stress of being poor has a staggeringly harmful
influence
on health." It isn't yet on the web, but I got a subscription copy
today.
The more this kind of material is out there, the easier our PHF's work.
Robert Sapolsky is a Stanford neuroscientist looking at the stress
response.
His popular book WHY ZEBRAS DON'T GET ULCERS came out last year in a
third
edition. He is an engaging speaker. Some of you may have seen him with
his
baboons and in his lab in the documentary Great Leveller about
inequality and
health. He will talk about "Stress and health: from molecules to
society." at
3:30 pm in T-625 of the Health Sciences Building at UW on Monday,
November 21.
