UW Town Hall meeting: Should the UW host Tent City III?

Join the discussion: Would hosting TC3 be consistent with the UW mission of
offering "timely solutions to the world's most complex problems?"*

Date: Tuesday, April 7, 7 pm

Location: Kane Hall 110

One of the most timely issues in an economic crisis is homelessness. In
Seattle, one community of homeless people have come together in a
self-organized, mobile, and LEGAL encampment called Tent City 3. For many, it's
a way of finding safety and minimal shelter while preserving some dignity, a
place to keep one's belongings, and a sense of community.Encampments are allowed
to stay up to 90 days in a single location; TC3 is currently at St. Mark's
Church (1245 10th Av. E).

A UW class in the School of Public Health, HServ 572, is investigating
the feasibility of inviting Tent City 3 to have a stay at the UW campus.

Come join the discussion: Is this a good idea, consistent with our UW mission?

What are your concerns? Would you like to help?

Invited Panelists include:
Tent City 3 residents
A recent host institution for TC3 (St. Mark's)
Seattle University, host of TC3 in February, 2005
Alison Eisinger, Seattle/King County Coalition on Homelessness
Ted Hunter, attorney at the Sound Law Center
Anitra Freeman, Women's Housing, Equality and Enhancement League

*The University of Washington's mission states, "We discover timely
solutions to the world’s most complex problems and enrich the lives of
people throughout our community, the state of Washington, the nation, and
the world." This movement is in line with Univeristy of Washington's mission

Please join us at this event, so your voice can be heard.
