To all,

The first phase remodel of The Evergreen State College Library (TESC)
will theoretically be completed in early October, at which time the
Archives and Special Collections unit will be moved in to its new
facility.  Included in that facility is a processing room which we hope
to also turn into a conservation lab.  To that effect, the company
Documents & Records Conservation Preservation Restoration LLC (DR CPR
LLC) will be donating equipment to the College Archives in order to
promote conservation and preservation education in the region.  

In regard to the State Library's map preservation problem, if there are
no objections and if the State Library is willing to provide the
materials for conserving these maps, I can offer the resources of TESC
Library labor through evening and weekend coursework for those students
and community members interested in learning the basics of document and
book conservation. The labor cost will thus be zero, the maps will be
used as final conservation projects after training has been completed.

If this scheme is acceptable to all - the State Library, TESC officials,
the State's conservation/preservation community and the general
population of Washington State - I will initiate what must be done to
make it a reality at TESC.
