Hi Elizabeth
I used an early version of Extensis for a while back in the late '90s
here at the museum and found it rather clunky and not super intuitive
but perhaps it has changed over the years. The biggest drawback was
that I was using a stand alone version rather than a network version so
to use the image catalog meant that someone had to use my machine.
Also, it uses its own format and it wasn't something that you could
migrate to a different platform so we basically "lost" all of the
cataloging that had been done for the digital images when we stopped
using Extensis.
Since I haven't been able to spend much time to research packages on my
own, I'd like to hear what others have to say on the topic. I briefly
looked at Contentdm since our library already participates with OCLC but
we already have more digital images than they support and the cost was
pretty prohibitive for an operation like ours.
If you are interested in how I manage 20,000 digital images let me know
and I can pass it on chapter and verse.

Subject: [Preservenw] campus image repository
Hello everyone,
There is growing interest on our campus to establish a campus (digital)
image repository. I have had a couple discussions with our campus
photographer who is looking into various platforms like Extensis and
Asset Bank. I'm wondering what other campuses might already be doing
this, or looking into this. What products are recommended by the
preservation community?
Thank you,
