Washington Emergency Management Division (WEMD) announce the closing of the

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- One month remains for Washington residents affected by the
January 6-16, 2009, severe winter storms, landslides, mudslides and flooding to
apply for disaster assistance. The deadline is March 31, 2009. Applicants can
register for assistance by calling, toll-free, 1-800-621-3362 (FEMA) (TTY
1-800-462-7585) from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week, or registering online
at www.disasterassistance.gov. Residents of the following 15 Washington
counties are eligible to receive disaster assistance: Benton, Cowlitz, Clallam,
Grays Harbor, King, Kittitas, Lewis, Mason, Pacific, Pierce, Skagit, Snohomish,
Thurston, Wahkiakum and Whatcom counties.

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Washingtonians are well aware of the dangers from flooding.
To minimize damages from future flooding, the Federal Emergency Management
Agency (FEMA) is providing disaster mitigation specialists at displays in two
Ace Hardware stores beginning Tuesday, March 3. These specialists will offer
advice and free publications to assist citizens in rebuilding "stronger, safer
and smarter" after the January 2009 flooding.

assistance. They urge residents not to let misunderstandings and misconceptions
prevent them from applying for assistance to help in their recovery. Applicants

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The head of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's
Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) today announced that federal
disaster aid has been made available for Oregon to supplement state and local
recovery efforts in the area struck by a severe winter storm, record and near
record snow, landslides, and mudslides during the period of December 20-26,
2008.
