____________________________________________________________________________
Environmental monitoring is the necessary first step to sustainable
preservation management.
It has never been easier or more urgent to optimize collection storage and
explore opportunities for energy savings.
Institutions applying to the National Endowment for the Humanities for a
Preservation Assistance Grant (PAG) for an environmental monitoring project
should consider some of the products and services available from the Image
Permanence Institute (IPI). NEH is familiar with IPI?s tools and
approaches?IPI itself has received NEH and IMLS grants in the past to
develop some of the most advanced preservation tools in the world.
Preservation Assistance Grants of up to $6,000 are available to support the
preservation of materials in smaller libraries, archives, museums, and
historical organizations. The deadline for application is May 14th for
projects beginning in January 2010 (view the NEH guidelines). Note that no
cost share or matching funds are required and that applicants to this
program generally have a high success rate.
