Hello,
Our cert was issued by verisign I believe, although unfortunately, as I said
I wasn't involved in the process so I'm unfamiliar with the terminology...
please forgive my ignorance. The server is at https://gilead.ucsd.edu if you
want to look at the cert yourself.. I have it in front of me right now, I
just don't know what info I'm looking for out of it.

Well, who signed your server cert? If you send us
your https URL, we should be able to determine this
ourselves.
Note: I'm mostly ignoring the apache portion of this
thread so far, because as long as you have no DES
key in /usr/local/pubcookie/keys, not much is
going to go right.
