Hello everyone!
As you may well be aware, ASUW elections are approaching (voting May 9-12). Tonight, RHSA held a candidate endorsement forum. After deliberation, the RHSA, ASUW endorsement committee has decided to endorse the following candidates:
President: Lee Dunbar
Vice President: Ashley Miller
Director of community relations: Hala Dillsi
Director of Diversity Efforts: Miranda Bethany
Director of Faculty, Administration and Academic Affairs: Jonathan Lee
Director of Operations: Karl Smith
Director of Organizational Relations: Cullen White
Director of Programming: Ezana Emmanuel
The RHSA endorsement committee has decided not to endorse WashPIRG and makes no recommendation.
The RHSA endorsement committee does not support Referenda #1.
Here is the extent of what an endorsement from RHSA entails: for those receiving endorsement from RHSA, they may indicate during campaigning that they have been endorsed by RHSA. RHSA will put up posters in the Residence Halls indicating endorsement of these candidates. Endorsed candidates will not receive special privileges to campaign in the halls.
RHSA will also put posters in the halls with the names of all candidates and information on when, where and how to vote. These posters will be non-partisan. Their goal is to encourage voting.
VOTING WILL BE ONLINE AT http://elections.asuw.org from May 9 until May 12. I encourage you to educate yourself about the candidates by visiting http://elections.asuw.org, by reading about the candidates in the Daily, or talking to the candidates yourself. The Residence Halls have the potential to be a big voting force in this election. Please encourage everyone that you know (friends, enemies, acquaintances) to vote. As added incentive, halls will receive OHS Points (these are very good) for voting.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via email at kek6 at u.washington.edu.
Happy voting!
Kathleen Kay
RHSA Vice President
ASUW endorsement committee chair
