Subject: Photos of Nepal needed--pass it on?
PHOTO CONTEST: NEPAL
Please pass this notice to the photographers on you list!
The Association for Nepal and Himalayan Studies (ANHS) invites submissions of high quality photographs for the third “Journey to High Asia” calendar.
These are dark and difficult times for Nepal, and ANHS has decided to feature this High Asian country in its 2006 teaching calendar. Designed and produced in collaboration with students at Portland State University, the calendar for 2006 will portray the exceptional beauty and complexity of Nepal. The calendar’s designers seek images of places—wild, rural, urban—peoples, and things; the object is to show and explain as many dimensions of Nepal as a 12-month calendar can contain.
The calendars in this series, created by students in Portland State University’s senior “capstone” class, seek to expand appreciation and understanding of the extraordinary lands and peoples of High Asia. The calendar series is explained further at http://www.himalayan.pdx.edu/Calendar.htm, and the content of the first calendar is translated into a virtual journey at http://www.himalayan.pdx.edu/high_asia_draft/index.html)
Photographers whose work is selected retain rights to their photographs. By submitting their images, photographers agree to allow their photographs to be used in the calendar and in other ANHS publishing projects, including the journal Himalaya (formerly Himalayan Research Bulletin), the organization’s website, and in other educational-outreach ventures of ANHS--a non-profit (501c 3) educational association (http://www.macalester.edu/%7Eguneratne/). Photographers’ work will always be credited, and they will receive copies of any material in which their work is used; the opportunity to use fine photographs in its publications enhances the effectiveness of ANHS' work, and the organization deeply appreciates the generous photographers who contribute to this effort.
The calendar is now in production, and photographs are urgently needed.
Selection of winning images will begin March 10th
Preferred format for electronic submissions:
Full color, 300 dpi, 8x10 (inch) tif images (pixels c. 2400 x 3000)
Ultimate print color space is CMYK
(Smaller scale and size images may be submitted, as long as a fine quality, high resolution image can be supplied should the photograph be selected.)
