With dozens of interviews of people such as Muresh Ambani, head of India's largest company, Reliance; Mira Nair, director of Monsoon Wedding, Vanity Fair and the Namesake; and Deepak Chopra, in-depth research, a wealth of recent data and provocative analysis, Mira Kamdar investigates the challenge before India: the country's growing gap between rich and poor, the AIDS crisis, the degradation of the environment, while saluting India's tremendous vitality and the opportunities this Asian democracy has to shape its own and, perhaps, all of our destinies.
Mira Kamdar, a Senior Fellow at the World Policy Institute since 1992, is an Associate Fellow of the Asia Society. She is the Author of Planet India: How the Fastest Growing Democracy is Transforming America and The World (Scribner: 2007) and Her acclaimed memoir, Motiba's Tattoos: A Granddaughter's Journey from America into her Indian Family's Past (Plume 2001), was a Barnes & Noble Discover Great New Writers selection and won the Washington Book Award.
