2. March 28th and 29th TASVEER Event, Central Cinema

As part of TASVEER's Aaina film festival, the Tasveer team brings an adaptation of Eve Ensler's classic Vagina Monologues. This performance encourages South Asian Women to speak out against the violence and stigma associated with bodies and also celebrates diverse experiences.

3. March 29, CHAYA event, Central Cinema, 2-4 pm.

Do you have a story to share about abuse and survival? Interested in speaking out against violence? Chaya invites South Asian survivors, victims, and their families and friends to participate in a creative community forum to share experiences related to all forms violence (i.e. structural, inter-personal, physical, sexual, emotional, child abuse.). Share your expressions in any form (writing, painting, storytelling, poetry, photography, dance, etc.) at Community Speaks, during Tasveer's Aaina Women's Festival on March 29th, 2008. Last day to RSVP to participate is Friday, March 15th, 2008. 4. April 11, First South Asia Chai, Spring Quarter (Venue TBA)

Save the Date! The first South Asia Chai for the Spring Quarter will be held on April 11. This first chai on April 11 will be devoted to developing themes for the following chais, and to forming an organizing group for these and the AY 2008-2009 chais.



5. April 15, 2008, Seattle University, 4:00 pm. Lecture on experiences in Pakistan.

The Center for Global Justice invites you to a presentation by Nicholas Schmidle "Watching Pakistan: Two Years Inside the World's Most Dangerous Country"
Nick Schmidle is a writer interested in the intersection of culture, religion, and politics in Asia . He was in Pakistan as an ICWA fellow examining issues of ethnic, sectarian, and national identity. Previously, he reported from Central Asia and Iran . His work has been published in major publications such as the Washington Post, the Weekly Standard, Foreign Policy, and the Christian Science Monitor. He holds a master's degree in International Affairs from American University.

The talk is at Seattle University School of Law, Sullivan Hall, Room 110.

1. Assistant Director for Asian Studies, University at Buffalo, SUNY

The University at Buffalo Asian Studies Program announces a search for an Assistant Director to
work with the faculty Director and interdisciplinary Advisory Council. Responsibilities will
include identifying grant opportunities and helping draft grant proposals to support the Program
and its outreach activities, organizing events and conferences, communicating with core
constituencies, representing the Program at regional meetings, working with local schools on
outreach projects, and assisting with the routine work of the Program.

2. Full time lecturer in Hindi, University of California, Berkeley.
The Department of South and Southeast Asian Studies at the University of California, Berkeley invites applications for a one year appointment as a full time lecturer in Hindi. The appointment will begin on 7/1/2008 and may be renewed annually thereafter. The appointee will be required to teach three undergraduate courses per semester, namely Introductory, Intermediate and Advanced Hindi.
Applicants must possess native or near-native fluency in Hindi. An M.A. or Ph.D. degree in an appropriate field is desired, but not necessary.

1. Texas Asia Conference:
The Texas Asia Conference at the University of Texas at Austin invites students working on original research projects and across disciplines of Asia to present their work. All areas of study are invited: communication, ethnomusicology, history, literature, women's studies, political science, religion, anthorpology, philology and other related fields. Work which crosses disciplinary boundaries is encouraged. The last day for abstract submission is April 3rd.
