*Frank F. Conlon South Asia Fellowship*
The South Asia Center at the University of Washington announces, with
pleasure, the competition for the Frank F. Conlon Fellowship in South Asian
Studies. We invite applications from graduate students in all disciplines
who are engaged in the study of South Asia and who will be enrolled at the
University of Washington during the 2011-2012 academic year. The award will
be based on academic merit and financial need.

The South Asia Center is pleased to announce the competition for the
awarding of the India Association of Western Washington Scholarships.
This competition is open to all University of Washington students who are
South Asia majors or who have demonstrated an interest in South Asia as
defined below.
Two awards will be made, each in the amount of $1000, for support of the
awardee's studies during the 2011-2012 academic year.

*The 2010 Amrit Kaur Ahluwalia Memorial Dissertation Research Award*
*Award Details:*
These grants are designed to support dissertation research for Ph.D.
candidates whose research focuses on Sikh or Punjabi studies. We encourage
proposals from students of any discipline in the humanities or social
sciences.
*Eligibility:*
Open to Ph.D. students in any stage of their doctoral program. Preference
will be given to students who are conducting their research or writing their
dissertation.
*Awards:*
Two awards of $1,000 each will be awarded
*Timeline:*
· January 28, 2011: All proposals due by close of business.
· February 18, 2011: Fellowship awards announced.

· Applicants should submit a statement of purpose outlining their
dissertation research project. The statement of purpose should be 2-3 pages
long and should include a summary of the research, contribution to current
knowledge, methodology for carrying out the research, and describe
specifically how the funds will be used.
· In addition, please supply an estimated budget, a timeline, a recent CV,
and two letters of reference (one must be from your current dissertation
advisor).

Shorenstein Fellowships
Shorenstein APARC Fellowship

The Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center in the Freeman Spogli Institute
for International Studies announces its 2011-2012 Walter H. Shorenstein
Fellowships. Made possible through the generosity of Walter H. Shorenstein,
awards will be made to two junior scholars (recent Ph.D.s must have degree
conferral by August 31, 2011) for research and writing on Asia.
The primary focus of the program is contemporary political, economic, or
social change in the Asia-Pacific region (including Northeast, Southeast,
and South Asia), or topics in international relations and international
political economy. Fellows must be in residence for at least three academic
quarters, beginning the fall quarter of the 2011 academic year. Fellows take
part in center activities throughout the academic year, and are required to
present their research findings in center seminars. Fellows also participate
in the center's publication program. Fellows receive a stipend of $42,000,
plus $2,500 for research materials.
Applicants should submit: (1) a brief research statement (not to exceed five
typed pages), which describes the research and writing to be undertaken
during the fellowship period as well as the proposed publishable product;
(2) curriculum vitae; and (3) three letters of recommendation.

Job Opening: Urdu Language Lecturer 2011
The Center for South Asia Studies at the University of California, Berkeley
invites applications for a one-year appointment as a full time lecturer in
Urdu with the possibility of renewal. The appointment will begin on
7/1/2011. The appointee will be expected to contribute to the long-term
quality, stability and development of the Urdu program at Berkeley at all
levels.
Applicants must possess native or near-native fluency in Urdu. Preference
will be given to candidates with proven experience in teaching Urdu as a
foreign language and with proven creativity and pedagogical success in the
design and delivery of courses particularly at the elementary and
intermediate levels of instruction. An M.A. or Ph.D. degree in an
appropriate field is desired, but not necessary. The salary will be
commensurate with teaching experience.
