Geographic Information Systems Specialist

The Biodiversity Assessment Project (BAP), now conducted at the School of
Resource and Environmental Management, Simon Fraser University, Vancouver,
is seeking a GIS specialist for a contract of 1 year, renewable on budget
approval.

The ideal candidate will have:

- A Bachelors degree in geography, forestry, biology, or any natural
resource management program.
- A minimum of two years of full-time GIS work experience using ArcInfo and
ArcView is required and good knowledge of modelling with GRID and
programming with AML is essential. The successful candidate will be
comfortable with UNIX and PC hardware, networking, and operating systems
(NT, windows95, and Solaris). Knowledge of UNIX database using SQL language
(INFORMIX, ORACLE) will also be an advantage.
- Good teamwork skills are sought, as he/she will have to work closely with
researchers and graduate students. It is expected that the candidate has
effective oral and written communication skills.

Tasks:

1.Develop and maintain the BAP GIS database.
2.Perform spatial analysis and modelling using ArcInfo GIS.
3.Provide GIS technical support to graduate students.
4.Write reports and model documentation for technology transfer.
5.Participate in public forums and scientific conferences.
6.Perform general UNIX and NT system administration within the lab.

Salary will be approximately $37,000. This position will officially open in
