Integrating ACCESS database files with GIS files

The most flexible way I've seen for dealing with this is to use the shape
file in AV. The shape file is point, line, _or_ polygon (sorry, folks,
there is no line + poly shape, as with coverages). However, the attribute
data in a shape file are stored in a standard dBase (IV?) file which can
be used in Excel, Access, etc. In Access, you will need to save your
Access table as a dBase file. Then link this dBase file into your Access
mdb. Some initial testing (you should verify this on your own) is that
the same dBase file, opened in Access and AV at the same time, can be
edited in either application, and the changes are updated in real time.
