amazing UK GIS data

The UK Ordnance survey has a new online data preview tool:

The good news is that the landline data are of high quality.  The bad news
is that you need to pay (up to US$60 for a 500x500m tile).

What's worse, having access to free, but often low-quality and out-of-date
data, or not having access to high-quality, current data?
