Subject: [APPLIED-GIS-RS] Educational GIS Opportunity - VISIT Program
Folks:
Opportunities for FREE GIS training and FREE college credit don't happen
very often.
Read on:
Are you interested in a professional development opportunity in which you
will learn to use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) tools, scientific
(and other) datasets via an online course? You will also earn 3 graduate
credits from Eastern Michigan University at NO COST to yourself. (The
program is funded through NSF funds.) The program is called VISIT -
Virtual Immersion in Science Inquiry for Teachers.
This program is geared toward secondary educators, although college-level
educators may certainly participate. Teachers will gain experience in
conducting scientific investigations using advanced technology tools and
scientific data sets, learning to locate and use data from and about their
own local community and region. Teachers will support other teachers'
professional development by trying out tools, data sources, and
investigation materials, and participating in online discussions.
If all this sounds interesting, enrollment in the course must be done
(online) by 1 October 2002. The course begins on Oct. 15th and meets on an
"asynchronous" basis (that is - there is no specific time that you must be
online to complete the various assignments for the program.
