JOB POSTING for the position of RESEARCH DIRECTOR

The Wilderness Committee is Canada's largest membership-based wilderness
preservation organization with offices in five Canadian cities. We work to
preserve Canada's biodiversity through public education and research. The
successful candidate for the position of Research Director will lead the
Research Team, work hands on with GIS mapping and manage field work
projects. Specific responsibilities will include but not be limited to the
following:

· Oversight of research activities undertaken by both staff and volunteers
· Liaison with external organizations and individuals
· GIS database management
· Geographic research, survey and mapping
· Planning and executing field work

Qualifications
· Commitment to preservation of biodiversity and broad understanding of
current and historical conservation issues in Western Canada
· Team player, problem-solver, sense of humor, enthusiastic, flexible, able
to meet deadlines
· 1 year of applied GIS research and analysis experience on ArcInfo and
ArcView
· Degree or diploma in geography, GIS, planning, resource management,
environmental science or related field
· Strong proficiency in: cartography and graphic design; map reading;
understanding of different coordinate systems; surveying, GPS, and other
type of field orientation.

Assets
· Excellent analytical skills and previous research experience
· Superior writing and editing skills
· Backcountry experience and gear
· First aid training
· Valid drivers license

This is a permanent position based on 32 hours per week (0.8 FTE). Please
