[UW-GIS-L] converting annotations from AML to ArcMap

I've been converting a client's AML project into ArcMap, and they 
provided annotation files in .e00 format.  I can add them directly to 
my ArcMap project, and see the annotations by turning on their 
labels, but the resulting labels are different and every time I open 
the file it takes several minutes to index.

I see an "Import Coverage Annotation" tool in my Conversion Tools/To 
Geodatabase, but it does not see the .e00 file.  Any suggestions?

Also I have been getting inconsistent results importing feature 
classes into geodatabases with either the single or multiple 
conversion tools.  Sometimes I get the complaint that the target 
feature doesn't exist, which seems a bit of a catch-22 since I am 
trying to create it.  And yet I know this has worked in the past for me.
