[UW-GIS-L] GRASS question

Hello,

I wanted to install GRASS to see if I'm smart enough to figure it out, but so far that has been a negative; I haven't been able to get past the downloading part.  I have found a question posted at http://jrshelby.com/grass/problems.htm which explains my situation exactly:

"I just installed grass for Windows XP and followed the steps put forth on both your site and the Cygwin site and all the steps went well until after I installed grass60.bat Every time I run it, whether through the windows run command or from a shortcut on the desktop, the msdos screen flashes very quickly and then closes and nothing happens after that."

The responses posted to this question are not helping me yet.  I'm running Windows XP if that makes any difference at all.  If anyone has any feedback that would be great!
