Amber, 
You can use the "Calculate Field" tool and enter in some VBA code in the
advanced section of the Expression text box. Go to ArcGIS desktop and
type in "Calculate Geometry, using" in the index tab. There are examples
on how to make geometric calculations using the geometry object, e.g.
area, perimeter, etc. Hope this helps,

model builder? I can only find "field calculator" which is not
