The Atmospheric-Optics Laboratory in Physics and Atmospheric Science at
Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada seeks a
postdoctoral fellow to help operate, maintain and analyze data from a
Raman lidar (laser radar) located in the High Arctic at Eureka (80N,
86W). The applicant must have practical experience with lasers and
optical systems, including optical alignment, tuning and field/lab
repairs. A background in computer programming in a unix/linux environment
is also required.

The lidar is remote-controlled from Halifax. Field trips to Eureka are
needed to service and further develop the instrument. The lidar
measurements are used for climate process research, and include
tropospheric temperatures, water vapor concentrations, and particle
optical properties. These add to a large complement of additional
measurements for study of the arctic radiative environment. The
successful applicant will be expected to publish results from the
measurements in collaboration with researchers in the Canadian Network
for the Detection of Atmospheric Change (CANDAC; see
http://www.candac.ca/).

The position will be for two years, contingent upon performance and
continued availability of funding. Applications should include a cover
