Thanks, Shannon. Good to know. We had only tried ArcGIS 9.3.1 Server
on RHEL 5.4 x86_64. After installing many 32 bit libraries just to
satisfy the installation requirements, there were still lots of errors.
So I did some research and was unable to find anyone who actually got
this to work. Since this was not a critical requirement for our
project, our client preferred to forgo additional efforts on this.
However, if anyone is able to get ArcGIS 9.3.1 Server to run properly on
RHEL 5.x x86_64, I would be very interested to hear about it. My
understanding is that this is a 32 product developed for Windows but
ported to Linux.
Even if you get it to run on a 64 bit OS, it will not be able to take
advantage of the extra RAM, etc. on that system. And the support
required to make it run (lots of 32 bit libraries) can create (and did
create) lots of conflicts in package management. We had to use a number
of additional repositories (RPMForge, EPEL, Fedora, etc.) to get all of
the 32 bit dependencies installed. Quite a lot of fussing with yum was
required to shoehorn all of these in place. And even then the product
would not run. So, if someone got it to work, please let me know. Thanks!
