[UW-GIS-L] ERDAS Imagine

The UW did not renew the campus ERDAS license - a combination of budget cuts, program consolidations, and the substantial cost of the software just made it impossible.
There are at least a couple of alternatives:
1. ENVI/IDL. There is a UW consortium for this. Cost is much lower (under $50/seat) - although the vendor's licensing process is quite cumbersome. For more info, you might check out http://www.ittvis.com/ and/or the UW's IDL-users mailing list, http://mailman2.u.washington.edu/mailman/listinfo/idl-users . Local coordinator for the license is Richard Coffey, IT Director for Physics/Astronomy, richardc at uw.edu .
2. Contact ERDAS to see what options are available for single-seat academic licenses. Our ERDAS rep is:

Subject: [UW-GIS-L] ERDAS Imagine
I'm off campus and trying to get a hold of a copy of ERDAS Imagine for a
university-owned computer. I saw an posting on UW-GIS-L that seemed to
be a plea for people to share the cost of the site license for 2010.
Did UW end up getting another site license for ERDAS this year? If so,
are users being asked to contribute from a budget to get the program?
How much? And is the software able to be downloaded and used remotely?
I tried emailing Miles Logsdon , who I think is coordinating the site
license for ERDAS, but he is out of the office now, so I figured I'd see
if anyone else knows.
