Curriculum Coordinators,

In the past, the Curriculum Office has accepted prerequisite changes that
affect only your administrative unit via email sent directly to the
office. However, problems have arisen in that we don't always receive all
the information needed to process those requests.

Therefore, we are now asking that all prerequisite changes that involve
only classes within your administrative unit be submitted via our online
form. This will help us immensely, and will help you provide us with the
information we need. (The process for requesting prerequisite changes
that affect another administrative unit remains the same: submit a Course
Change Application with the affected units' signature(s) in section 8.)

The form is at:

http://weber.u.washington.edu/~uwcr/email.html

More information on prerequisites is at:

http://weber.u.washington.edu/~uwcr/prereq.html

Also, while I've got your electronic ears, please remember that the
earliest effective quarter for course changes that require the application
form is now WIN/2000. Please see the deadlines page for more information:

http://weber.u.washington.edu/~uwcr/deadlines.html

A few items from the Curriculum Office:

(1) Today was the deadline for submitting New Course Applications and
Course Change Applications to be considered for the April meeting of the
Curriculum Review Subcommittee. The next deadline is May 3 for the May
meeting.

(2) We have (finally) updated the New Course Application and the Course
Change Application to reflect the new century. (The lines for the
effective quarters now have the right century.) A couple aesthetic
changes have also been made. The forms are still available only in Word
for Windows and PDF (which is a cross-platform format, so all our Mac
users can print it up). We are currently working on making it possible to
fill out the PDF forms from your computer, so that non-Word users don't
have to use a typewriter.

(3) We have changed our policy for listing new courses in the online
course catalog. Formerly our policy was to hold the listing until the
effective beginning quarter of the class. However, this caused some
confusion, so we are now listing new courses as soon as they are approved.
For those courses that are approved for an effective quarter some time in
the future (currently defined as SUM/2000 or beyond), a line at the end
reading "New course, effective QTR/YEAR" has been added. It will be
removed once the course is effective.

Curriculum Coordinators,

The Curriculum Office now has PDF forms that can be filled out on your
computer. For those of you who do not have Word for Windows, you can now
fill out the form and print it up, rather than having to use a typewriter.

The forms are accessible in the same place as always: at the Curriculum
Office Web site:

http://weber.u.washington.edu/~uwcr/

A few notes of caution: because of the nature of acrobat reader, you can
*not* save the filled out form on your computer. You can fill it out and
print it up all in one session, but you cannot save it for work on later.
Also, some of the fields are limited to how many characters can fit in
that field. However, overall, this is a marked improvement over the old
"find a typewriter" method many of you had to use.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact me for help with using
these forms.

Curriculum Coordinators,

My apologies. There seems to be some confusion over my previous message,
especially over what a "PDF form" is.

The Curriculum Office currently has its Course Change Application and New
Course Application online in two formats: Word for Windows (.doc format)
and Acrobat Reader (.pdf format). The Acrobat Reader format is what the
previous message was about. Anyone who has Acrobat Reader (a free
application) can now fill out the form itself and print that up from their
computer, rather than having to print the form and go to a typewriter.

Curriculum Coordinators,

The April meeting of the University Curriculum Review Subcommittee was
yesterday. Most everything was approved. If you had courses on the agenda
(http://weber.u.washington.edu/~uwcr/agenda.html) they are now approved,
unless you have already been notified otherwise.

The approved new courses and changes will be entered into the sdb by next
Tuesday. After that time, you can request SLNs from Time Schedules/Room
Assignments.

And don't forget, the deadline for submitting applications to be
considered for the May meeting is next Monday, May 3.
