Produced by the National Constitution Center, Philadelphia, PA in cooperation with the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission. The exhibition was developed with generous support from the Lincoln Financial Group.

Accompanied by Blue vs. Gray: The Civil War in the Pacific Northwest.
You may assume the Civil War had little effect on frontier life in the Northwest, but this was far from true. Discover the fascinating facts and stories that reveal how significant this national conflict was to the residents in the Northwest.

Primary exhibit sponsor for Seattle presentation - Safeco Insurance. Local support also provided by 4Culture, King County and media sponsor KUOW.

Open through April 20, 2008

This provocative lecture will explore the three great constitutional issues of the Civil War, here, in Washington Territory.

LECTURE
“We Cannot Escape History: Abraham Lincoln and the Halting Path to Emancipation”
Professor Tracy McKenzie, University of Washington

No individual did more to define the meaning of the American Civil War—both to contemporaries and to posterity—than President Abraham Lincoln. Yet as Lincoln framed it, the meaning of the tragic conflict changed. What began as a war exclusively to preserve the Union eventually became a war for black freedom as well. How are we to understand the halting path of “the Great Emancipator” to emancipation?

Lecture tickets: MOHAI members $8. General Public $12.
Tickets are available from www.brownpapertickets.com or 1-800-838-3006
