3 11-JUL-1995 13:47 Zuelle wins tour stage - more
(LA PLAGNE X X X X fifth.)
Bjarne Riis of Denmark, second overall after the 8th stage and who had last
week unexpectedly held the yellow jersey, slipped further back Tuesday.
Indurain, seeking a fifth consecutive tour win, is now 5 minutes, 58
seconds ahead of Riis, and 6 minutes, 35 seconds in front of third- placed
Rominger in the overall standings. As in the two previous tours, the Spaniard
has proved to be the strongest rider in the mountains.
For Zulle, it was the first ever stage victory in the Tour de France.
"When I launched the attack, I didn't expect to find myself alone so
quickly," he said. "I was hoping for some reinforcements, but I didn't have
much choice. My objective was to win the stage because I lost more time than I
expected in the time trial."
