FYI.

Good luck on finals. Do not decide to ride 60 miles in the rain the day
you're supposed to be studying-it doesn't work.

Also, for those of you who will be stuck in our dreadful clime through the
winter-Craft Scandinavia has been nice enough to extend to us pro deal
pricing on their products. Craft makes very high quality long underwear
of all shapes, sizes, and varieties. Their pro deal is 50% off of retail.
Lots of pimp dudes use this, including all sorts of world cup nordic
skiers-so its gotta be good right. To take advantage of this offer, you
must have paid dues and affix a craft sticker to your frame or helmet.
Thank our friend Huub at Craft for this one. Everybody now-1-2-3 THANKS
HUUB!

Have a great break. I will see you all in upon my return in
April-hopefully we will have many new faces at the collegiate races as
well as the usual suspects.

Hugs and Kisses, Busto

Subject: Upcoming road season

Events

Planning is well underway for the 2000 NWCCC road racing season. At present, the tentative scheudle is as follows:

Mar. 25-26 Seattle hosted by Seattle Central Community College.
April 2-3 Spokane, hosted by Baddlands Cycling Club
April 8-9 Seattle, hosted by University of Washington
April 15-16 Richland, WA, hosted by Chinook Cycling Club
        April 22-23 Open
April 29-30 Conference Championship, Walla Walla, WA

If your club would like to host an event, please contact me as soon as possible. If you have already indicated that you will host an event, I would like to know who your event director will be, contact information for the event director, and a brief description of the event. When this information is provided, I will publish it on the conference web page, and, if you prepare a web announcement, I will provide a link to the announcement from the web page. It is now time to start working on obtaining event permits and arranging for permission to use venues. We should also be preparing race support plans and organizing volunteers. Getting a good jump on race organization will go a long way toward assuring a successful road season. If you need help or just someone to bounce ideas off of, don't hesitate to call.

Rosters

The NCCA rules specify that team rosters must be submitted to the conference director by Dec. 31. I have provided an individual registration form on the Conference web page (http://users.moscow.com/wykoff) and the registration data can be transmitted through that form. Alternatively, you can send me the same information via email or surface mail. Please include name, address, class standing, school, current USCF and NORBA membership status and categories, gender, and cycling interests (Road, Track, CCX, MTB, BMX...) for each competitor on your team. You can add to your roster at any time, but the sooner I start getting this information, the sooner I can start preparing a database to support registration for the coming season.

Categories and Scoring

In the past, we have operated with two categories for men and a single category for women. This year I would like to try scoring an additional category for both men and women. My hope is that everyone involved will have an enhanced sense of participation. Guidelines for categorization are provided by the NCCA rules, but are not rigidly interpreted. With regard to NWCCC, I propose the following assignments:

        Men:
            A:  USCF Pro-1-2, 3   or NORBA Pro, Semi-pro, or Expert;
            B: USCF 3, 4 or NORBA Sport
C: USCF 5 or NORBA Beginner

        Women:
A: USCF 1,2,3 or NORBA Pro, Semi-pro, Expert or Sport
B: USCF 3,4 or NORBA Sport or Beginner

Initial categories will be based on the registration information provided. If a rider wishes to compete in a category that is higher than indicated, it will be generally permitted. However, once points are earned at the higher category, downgrading will not be permitted. In the past, we have allowed relatively free category changes. This year I would like to tighten the process somewhat and changes in category will be approved by me.

Individual points will be awarded by placing for each event in accord with the schedule in the NCCA rules. A team score will be determined for each event by combining the four highest individual finish scores in each category along with prime points earned by any team member. The team and individual championships will be determined by summing the team scores for a portion of the events. I propose that we base the season championships on the smallest number of scores greater than or equal to 2/3 of the total number of events, but including the conference championship events. Thus, if there are 10 overall events, the team total will include the 3 conference championship events plus the four highest scores from the remaining seven events. The conference will provide trophies/medals for the overall team champion and for the top individual rider in each category.

There is a lot to digest here, and as always, I greatly appreciate any feedback. Bounce these proposals off of your club members and let me know if there are any needed changes. If team registration goes as planned, we should have a streamlined registration system in place by the start of the season, along with permanent numbers to assist in the scoring.

Regards,

Bill
