Todays race was awesome. We couldn't have asked for better weather.
Everybody had a great time at the race and everything went smoothly. No
crashes, as I expected. Oregon lost out by going home last night for sure.
Jerry Baker ran a clean race for us and it helped to have some extra
officials on hand. Everybody thank Dan's wife Sophia for helping out with
registration and for cheering us on. We need to get her to some of these
races!

The Huskies made a good effort today even with our lack in numbers. K.C.
ripped up the womens race taking second. She took the final sprint like a
champ..beating out a pair of Cat 1 racers. She's got some guns.

As James would say, Ken kicked some cracker ass. He won the B final. He
worked a lot and raced smart at the same time. Ben was in the final too.
Dan ran a great consolation race too.

James, Ty, and I made it into the final A race. Busto was almost there
too. He ran a burly consolation race. He pretty much lead out the sprint
every time I think. James went off the front with Mr. Swanson and they
lapped the field and hung with the remnants of a chase group gone bad. Me
and four other guys had tried to chase for a while, but only succeded in
keeping the group split up. James finished second. Ty learned a lot from
his first crit type race. He will put the hurt on next week I am sure.

The Swanson brothers from Montana State are going to be tough to beat this
year. James wasn't expecting Doug to be so strong I don't think. OSU
caught us with our pants down though. They racked up some serious points
this weekend because they had such a big team. They were the only team to
field Mens C racers, so they got all of the points for 1-3 spots. That
hurt us bad. They also have some really strong men B racers. Montana
State has some big boys with the Swanson brothers, and a few other strong A
riders. They also have quite a bit of depth in the B's and a couple of
women. Oregon seemed to field a fairly small team, as did WSU. I think
right away our competition is OSU and Montana State. It is going to take
every Husky racer at all of the races to contend for the Conference Champs.

This brings up a point I spaced on somewhere along the way. There is only
one set of points we are going for. Conference Champ goes to Road
Nationals. Every point from every category counts. Based on the field
sizes from this weekend, everybody who races gets some points because they
go so deep. This means we need to get talking to our teamates and tell
them how much fun collegiate racing is!!!!

The women yesterday did wonders for our standings. We missed Jeanette and
Jen today, but hope to see them both next week in Spokane. Beth will be
out next weekend too so we look good there. It would be nice if a couple
other women would come do Seward and Vashon. And we need everybody at
Conference Champs in Walla Walla because points are doubled up.

If any B racers who haven't raced yet this year want to race C's, go for
it. You can beat those guys from OSU! Hopefully Michael will be all
checked out and ready to roar next week. Lets all wish him luck with that.

Good job to all who raced this weekend. Lets get some more folks out next
week. Everybody remember to shop at Trader Joes because they hooked us up
with cliff bars. You might even stop in and say hi to one of the managers
if you go. They all know about the team, and they would love to see us
there I am sure. Same for Great Harvest and Stellas.

Brian
