Consumer Input Sought on Wireless TTYs

Royce D. Jordan, director of Mobile Products for RAM Systems
Development, designs and builds computer systems that interface
between the Internet and the wireless mobile data world. These
systems allow wireless users to send e-mail, faxes, text-to-speech
voice messages, and alphanumeric pages.

Jordan has been considering the idea of building a TDD/TTY
interface to the system. He says that this would "basically give
people TTY access via a wireless palmtop computer and a radio."
He wishes to assess the level of interest in such a system, and
seeks input on what features should be included. "In addition,"
he says, "this is a packet-based system so entire sentences need
to be transmitted instead of individual characters. Is this going
to cause a problem or make the system difficult to use for a TTY
user receiving the message?"
