Airlines/Wheelchair Batteries

I have a Invocare 9000 with gel cell batteries. I have mainly flown on
American & Alaska. On American, they did not remove my batteries from
their case but did remove them from the power wc. On Alaska not only did
they remove them from the chair but also removed them from their case and
took apart the wries!! This inspite of my making sure everybody knew that
they were gel cell. Every airline has different policies :-(
