Southwest Airlines Gives Lift to Children
Southwest Donates Roundtrip Tickets to Pediatric Cancer Treatment
Facilities Across the Nation
DALLAS--March 22, 1996--Today Southwest Airlines launched a new program,
"The Children's Wing," benefitting children with serious illnesses.
Southwest Airlines commences the new program to coincide with Children and
Healthcare Week, March 17-23, by donating 1,200 roundtrip tickets.
"As part of our 25th anniversary celebration in 1996, we wanted to
initiate a program that gave back to the communities that have made us so
successful," said Tracie Martin, Southwest's manager of civic and
charitable contributions. "By giving tickets we hope we can help with some
of the costs that families might incur while their children are seeking
cancer treatment."
Through the program, Southwest Airlines will donate 25 roundtrip tickets
to a pediatric cancer treatment facility in each of the 48 cities it
serves in the United States. Each treatment facility will be able to use
the tickets as they see most beneficial to various children through the
course of their treatment during the year. For example, they may give one
family tickets for a child and mother to travel to and from their facility
for treatment.
"We really appreciate the generosity of Southwest Airlines. This is a true
example of a Company showing it really cares for people," said Heather
Bennett McCabe, Association for the Care of Children's Health executive
director. "Through this type of contribution, we can provide choices for
families. Money not spent on travel can now be used for other necessary
care."
