below is a message from someone with the university of washington DO-IT
listserv regarding possible on-line connections for students with
disabilities. (for those who don't know about DO-IT, it's a program whose
primary funding is by the national science foundation to encourage
students with disabilities and an interest in science, engineering, or
mathematics to continue through college in those disciplines.
participation begins while the student is in high school.)

There is a BBS in Canada called Ability OnLine, which is mainly for kids
and teens with disabilities, but is open to anyone interested in
disabilities. You must create an account, which will have to be renewed
after a few months and then about once a year. But it is free -- you
don't have to pay anything but yoku do have to follow some rules to keep
their expenses down. You can dial directly in or telnet -- I'm not sure
of the phone number but the telnet address is <bbs.ablelink.org>.
Although you are only allowed a half-hour a day, it is a really fun place
to meet pen pals and make friends.
