Jar opener and utensil holders

I am currently involved in a research project to design and build 
 a device to assist students with disabilities in the handling of kitchen 
untensils.  I have seen some spoons that have a pivot on them but this 
doesn't really work because the food falls off before the student can get 
it to his/her mouth.  Does anyone know of any other devices used to 
orient a utensil in the hand to keep it in the correct orientation?
	Also, I'm working on a design for a jar opener for use with 
persons with mild disabilities.  Any input on this subject would be 
greatly appreciated.
