Speaking to Write: Realizing the Potential of Speech Recognition for
Secondary Students with Disabilities, a project funded by the U.S.
Department of Education, National Institute on Disability and
Rehabilitation Research, explores the use of speech recognition software by
secondary students with disabilities.

Our Web site serves three purposes:

1. Inform others about this federally-funded project which explores the
use of speech recognition technology by secondary students with disabilities.

2. Enable visitors to explore the ins and outs of using speech
recognition technology to address writing difficulties through a Spotlight
on Speech Recognition, originally designed by the National Center to
Improve Practice in the Spring, 1997. The material contained within the
Spotlight is available free to print out and disseminate to others.

3. Invite individuals to participants in our spk2wrt listserv, a
moderated email discussion forum for students or adults who have used
speech recognition technology themselves or with students with
disabilities. The primary focus of the discussion is on the educational
and logistical issues associated with the use of speech recognition
technology by students with disabilities at home or in school settings.

To subscribe to the spk2wrt listserv, do the following:

    1. Create an email message to: majordomo at mail.edc.org

    2. Leave the subject line blank

    3. In the body of the message, type: subscribe spk2wrt
You do not need to include your email address or name.

    4. Send the message
