It's time to Celebrate the Eleventh Anniversary of the Americans with disAbilities Act

Eleven years ago today the Americans With Disabilities Act was signed into
Thank you ADA:
Because of you I met my best friend!--Maine, partner of person with CP
Because of you my mom can live at home and be my mom!--Iowa, daughter of
woman with spinal cord injury
Because of you I can go out to a restaurant to eat--California, person with
Because of you I can get to and work in my job--Texas, person with polio
Because of you I went to school--Colorado, person with mental retardation
Because of you I own my own business--Oregon, person with a traumatic brain
Because of you I can go to the movies with my partner--Illinois, person with
Because of you I have the right to go anywhere, do anything--New York,
person with multiple disAbilities
Because of you I became an athlete--Washington, person with a spinal cord
Because of you I have a job helping others thank you too--Washington D.C.,
person with a psychiatric disAbility
Because of you I have pride in who I am!--Missouri, person with multiple
The power of the ADA is not in the letters themselves, but something so much
more important--THE PEOPLE. For the first time people with ALL types of
disAbilities came to the table with one united voice, demanding the right of
equality. Thank you to the folks before us who have fought to pave the way!
May we have the strength to follow in your footsteps!
The road ahead may be long, but the one behind us is longer!
Today is the day for celebrating what we have achieved and regathering our
strength for the battles ahead.
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY ADA!!! And may there be MANY, MANY more!!!
